Mission work

in Mexico

The mission work is 490 miles south of Brownsville, Texas in the state of San Luis Potosi. The people that the church visits and supports are Huasteca & Aztec Indians who live in the mountain region. These brethren are interested in the true gospel of God and eager to further their knowledge of God’s teachings. They are a loving and caring group of people.

The Church of Christ in Aledo helps build churches, not church buildings.

The mission work in Old Mexico was started with the encouragement of Floyd Sorrell from Beaumont,Texas who started mission work in Mexico in 1958. in 1975 he encouraged the church of Christ in Aledo,Texas to start supporting a young man by the name of Jose Hemandez Felix, who had recently graduated from the preachers training school. With the guidance of Floyd Sorrell, we entered into the mission field offering monthly support to this young man. As the church grew in knowledge of mission work the interest of becoming more involved was instilled in the members. In 1984 three men from the church in Aledo, with translator Floyd Sorrell traveled into Mexico on a mission trip to acquaint themselves with the brethren in Mexico. This first trip stirred the interest of 0. C. Dugan to become more involved in this mission work. Under the oversight of the Aledo elders, mission trips were made once a year for five years. The elders saw the need to be more involved in this mission work and suggested two trips a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. As the church became more involved in mission work it started supporting another preacher, Valentin Aquino Juarez in 1990. Since 1990 the church has supported two preachers full time in their efforts to preach God’s word in an area that is mostly served by the Catholic church.
